Tobey Maguire On His Poker Scandal

The court-appointed trustee for the A-list celebrity poker lawsuits is suing Tobey Maguire for claiming that the poker games were legal, and that he shouldn't be forced to give up his winnings. As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Tobey Maguire won more than $300,000 from a Beverly Hills hedge fund manager who allegedly embezzled investor funds and orchestrated a Ponzi scheme in a desperate bid to pay off his monster debt to the star and others, and Howard Ehrenberg is attempting to recoup that money for the investors.

The games were “exclusive events, by invitation only, and that there was a regular roster of players consisting of wealthy celebrities, entrepreneurs, attorneys and businessmen," reads the 18 page lawsuit. It describes Tobey Maguire as a "very, very frequent" attendee.

As players were expected to turn up with a minimum of $100,000 at the twice-weekly events. The organizer, a socialite called Molly Bloom, told investigators that she earned a cut of their bankroll for providing card-tables, professional dealers, food, drink, and back masseurs to calm the nerves of invited guests.

According to court documents Bradley Ruderman - the CEO of Ruderman Capital Partners – who have lost $25 million of his investor's money in the illegal games which were not licensed by the State Of California or local government. To pay Tobey Maguire, Ruderman withdrew money from his personal account with City National Bank, but he often did not have enough cash to pay the famous gamblers.

The celebrity poker player, Tobey Maguire however filed a countersuit. WENN reported, "The actor has fired back with a countersuit, insisting the card games were never controlled and did not feature a regular roster of celebrities - as initially reported. Maguire also argued that he should not have to hand back any winnings because he lost just as much money to Ruderman."

The court appointed trustee, Howard Ehrenberg is attempting to recoup money for the the group. Tobey Maguire has filed a response to the lawsuit, in which he says he shouldn't have to fork over the money, because the games were legal.

In legal docs obtained by RadarOnline.com, a trial date has been set for Tobey Maguire for the week of January 30th, 2012, and the discovery cut-off date is November 30, 2011.

There aren’t any options for tailoring the amount of money or blinds in the game, which means almost every contest will be excessively drawn out. I would really like to see more “classic” strip poker, where one lost hand equals one article of clothing, instead of having to win multiple hands in order to see some naughty bits. Dominobet
