Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony appeared to be one of the super couples in Hollywood that would stand the test of time. After spending over seven years together as husband and wife, the couple finally announced they were calling it quits a month ago.
At the center of the announcement was the reports of a quote attributed to Lopez back in 2008 when the couple renewed their vows. Jennifer Lopez, at the time, was well aware that Las Vegas sports books and gamblers across the world were keeping a close eye on her marriage to Anthony.
“We realized the bets in Vegas stopped after five years,” Lopez told Us at the time of the renewal. Lopez and Anthony not only renewed their vows in 2008, but did so again last year. During the American Idol finale the couple shared the stage for a heated performance, indicating not much was wrong in their marriage.
Last week, however, the couple announced in a joint statement that they would be ending their 7 year union. Unlike some of the celebrity breakups, this one appears headed towards a peaceful conclusion.
“We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters,” said Lopez and Anthony in the statement. “It is a painful time for all involved, and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.”
While the couple is asking for privacy, it is unlikely that will be the case with Lopez and Anthony being two of the biggest performers in the Latin community and around the world. Lopez has yet to decide whether she will return to American Idol next season, but if she decides to do so, the divorce will be at the front of many fans' question list.
Eventually JLo got tired of hearing about Marc's prowess at an blackjack table and Marc Anthony got tired of listening about refinancing and premium payments for JLo's 1 billion dollar insured backside. This ultimately led to the couple finding eager volunteers outside the marriage to help stroke their over inflated egos and thus the marriage fell apart.
The divorce announcement came as a surprise to many especially after a recent appearance by Jennifer Lopez on a popular talk show where the singer, dancer and actress gushed how “Marc and I really do understand each other. We know each other’s hopes and dreams, we know each other’s strengths, we also know each other’s weaknesses, so in a way, we’re the best gauge of how we can be the best in everything that we do.”
Marc's passion for online casino and poker allegedly annoyed JLo, especially after Marc Anthony started to show some real feel for the card deck. He was rumored to have began playing in some of the biggest online poker games and blackjack card games just as the US government indicted three of the world's largest online poker rooms this April during a devastating event known by poker players as Black Friday.
A source close to the family told casino gambling news: “They also clashed when she learned he owed millions in unpaid taxes on the Long Island estate. The other problem was that they couldn’t agree where to live. JLo’s career is in Hollywood and she wanted to live in their Malibu mansion and Marc loved New York. She was going to move to New York in a last-ditch effort to save the marriage. But last Monday I heard it was all over.”
