Online casino and sports betting site William Hill have opened up a market on Lady Gaga ever becoming President of the United States and offer celebrity betting odds of 100/1 (in which you must bet $1 to make $100 profit) that she ever does. She is 500/1 that Lady Gaga takes over as US President at the next election, deposing Barack Obama from the White House.

Lady Gaga spoke at a rally in Portland, Maine as part of an effort to lobby the Senate to pass a defense bill that would have altered the military's ban on openly gay and lesbian service members, the so called Don't Ask, Don't Tell clause. Her speech was titled the “The Prime Rib of America” - a reference to the meat dress she wore at the MTV Awards - and received massive media coverage.

Media coverage of her speech veered between those who saw her as a potential serious politician of the future to those who thought it was yet another publicity stunt for a PR-hungry pop star. William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said that his firm had taken a small number of bets for gamblers who were convinced that Lady Gaga had serious political ambitions: "It is a serious longshot but if you had asked about Ronald Reagan in the 60s people would have thought you were GaGa!".

A more likely music and film star who people expect to run for political office at some time is Will Smith. It is expected that he may make a move into Philadelphia politics at some point in the next five years as a starting point towards a race to the White House.
